Opening the element for retreatment

The existing restoration has to be provided with quite a substantial opening. Amalgam or composite can be quite easily removed with usual diamond drills.
When it is covered by a crown of gold or porcelain, the easiest way to drill porcelain is using a diamond drill and the easiest way to drill metal is using special drills. Sometimes it is more advisable to remove the crown completely, which can perfectly be done with the WAMkey. Please refer to the WAMkey website for more details on procedure.
All the old filling material should be removed from the pulp chamber. Here, ultrasonic tipsUltrasone tips are very useful. In addition to this, an operating microscope is an almost indispensable appliance with all opening elements. All canal entrances should be well accessible with straight files . Particularly for front teeth it is important that also the space near the pulp horns is sufficiently open. By doing this, annoying discolorations after treatment are prevented. If the restoration shows cracks or caries, then the restoration and the caries should be removed. Then a (temporary) construction is made, whereupon rubber dam can easily be applied.
